An 8-part series for enhancing emotional intelligence and building resilience

(your own and your child's)

Why Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a set of skills that help us better perceive, understand, reason with, express, and manage emotions in ourselves and in others. Collectively, they help us make intelligent responses to, and use of, emotions. Research shows that these skills are a better predictor of personal and workplace success. We have interactions with others every day. Your (and your child's) ability to understand emotions--to be aware of them and how they impact the way you behave and relate to others--will improve your and your child's interpersonal skills and ultimately help you and your child be more satisfied and successful.

Why Resilience?

Resilience is the ability to be happy, productive, and even successful again after facing a crisis or something difficult. When facing a failure or negative situation, why do some people slide down a slope and go down for the count while others immediately start planning for a comeback? Why are some of us better than others at dealing with the moments that can potentially break us? These are the times when being emotionally intelligent and resilient can be very beneficial--for yourself and your child.
